On receiving the Good Design® Selection for Magna Carta - The Story of Our Freedom, the Jury commented: “Highly engaging and creative treatment of a challenging subject matter. This is a beautifully executed design that is as fresh as it is charming. The content, layout and overall design direction is deserving of recognition at the highest level.”
The Jury set the bar very high this year with only the very best submissions receiving this level of recognition. Australia’s Good Design Awards date back to the 1950's and have an enviable record of unearthing globally recognised talent and products.
The brief for the project was to explain the Rule of Law and the significance of the Magna Carta to Australian school students, to coincide with the 800th Anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta by King John. They created a scrolling parallax website which captured key events that led towards our current political system, but then also a video which explained the significance of these events.
The resource is now a part of the national school curriculum and has been a favourite project of Prof. Gillian Triggs. The team has now been commissioned to make a follow up series of videos explaining how the Australian legal system works in a similar graphic style, led by designer, Matthew Nguyen, and narrative team lead, Matt Taylor.
The 2017 Good Design Awards Ceremony and Festival will coincide with Vivid Sydney, now the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas. Winners will be celebrated at the black tie Awards Ceremony in Sydney, where guests will be invited to the exclusive opening of the 2017 Good Design Showcase, which will feature the winners of this year’s Awards.
