What’s the most exciting part of your job?
As the US practice leader for Deloitte Digital, I am often reminded that I have one of the coolest jobs on the planet. I don’t take that for granted. I am a digital junkie and a gadget freak, so exploring new technologies and helping clients innovate in amazing ways is what excites me the most. We are at a pivotal point in history, where digital innovation is exploding and the lines are being blurred across traditional marketing, sales, support, and enterprise boundaries. Digital is disrupting virtually every industry and business. I really enjoy helping our clients navigate and exploit this new world.
You talk a lot about the mobile revolution. How has mobile changed your day-to-day life?
How quick we are to forget what life was like before smartphones. When I started my career, I thought my whole world was in my daily planner. Clearly, that old planner only held about one thousandth of what smartphones and tablets provide today. For me, I spend more time per day interacting with my phone than with all other technology combined. Going well beyond email, calendar and messaging, I purchase most of my impulse buys from my phone. I have my entire house automated on my phone. It is now my primary camera, music device, navigation system, dinner reservation system, airline ticketing solution, movie pass, and much more. For business, I track time and expense, practice analytics, critical news, client details, and I have important disaster/crisis information at my fingertips. It is exciting to think that the mobile revolution is just getting started.
Deloitte Digital isn’t all work, we have fun too. What’s your favorite part of the culture here?
It is the people, the pranks, and the parties that make me smile the most. We have some amazing people. Brilliant artists and illustrators, engineers that could put an app in space, UX designers that shriek if the experience isn’t perfect, and business strategists that are deep specialists in their industries. This group also knows how to have fun…a lot of fun! From farm animals in offices to Whiskey Wednesdays, there is no shortage of creative entertainment.
In your opinion, what makes Deloitte Digital distinctive?
It is our portfolio and our teams. There is virtually no other digital agency that has the portfolio with the breadth and depth of solutions that are designed to provide real, bottom-line results. Deloitte Digital produces compelling creative experiences and provides technology heavy lifting around the back-end, while staying focused on the business, operations, and results of our solutions.
