Systems Integration Engineers are responsible for the analysis, design, documentation, and programming of integration (middleware) components, enabling newly-built web portals and mobile applications to reuse functionality provided by back-end systems.  Integration engineers use advanced communication skills to facilitate dialogue between internal and external clients and teams, as successful integration projects rely on securing commitment from various stakeholders and ensuring that designs decisions are aligned.  If mainly focused on integration, the engineer will have the opportunity to take on a variety of roles, including mobile and web engineering; projects usually range from a few weeks to a few months in length.

  • Assumes responsibility for planning, design, implementation, and testing for assigned integration components under the limited guidance of a lead integration engineer
  • Writes design documentation for assigned integration components; organises the review and/or release of documentation when required; ensures alignment with the designs of the systems being integrated and the overall solution architecture
  • Implements and unit-tests middleware components, then executes end-to-end integration tests, involving the development teams working on the systems being integrated
  • Demonstrate clear progress and a willingness to advance towards a more senior role
  • Follow accepted coding standards and best practices, using agile software development methodologies and embedding quality in every aspect of the delivery lifecycle
  • Experience of designing and developing integration solutions (ESB/middleware and Web Services)
  • Significant experience with one or more of the following: Tibco BusinessWorks, IBM WPS/BPM, webMethods ESB, Oracle Fusion Middleware SOA/BPM, JBoss ESB, Mule ESB, Talend ESB
  • A good graduate degree (1st or Upper Second) is required combined with post-graduate experience in consulting or industry
Preferred skillset
  • Has delivered at least one integration solution, preferably in an Agile Development team
  • Strong OOAD experience, including business process and data modelling
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Java, JavaScript, C, C++, Objective-C, C#, iOS SDK, Android SDK, other mobile SDKs
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with little to no supervision and to effectively prioritise workload to meet deadlines and work objectives
  • Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills
