AMBITION
Drive therapy awareness to support patient decision-making
For more than 30 years, Medtronic has offered the life-changing therapy of deep brain stimulation (DBS) to people with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. It’s an established treatment option for movement disorders, but many patients aren’t aware of it or don’t realize how it could improve symptom control. While patients become eligible for DBS four years after Parkinsons diagnosis, hesitancy around the therapy can often cause patients to delay possible treatment.
At the same time, patients are increasingly taking a more active role in understanding their health care—researching therapies and treatments to have more informed discussions with their providers. Seeing an opportunity to increase therapy awareness by directly educating people with Parkinson's, Medtronic developed a direct-to-patient program.
Medtronic worked with us each step of the way to generate an innovative patient-centered outreach campaign to drive awareness of DBS and educate patients about the therapy. With a local market media test strategy backed by poignant creative, we aimed to better educate patients about the therapy.
ACTION
Expand therapy awareness through patient-first outreach
Supported by comprehensive research and market and audience analysis, we helped Medtronic develop a direct-to-patient program that could break the traditional mold of provider-focused messaging. This included a creative concept, asset playbooks, market testing structure and media activation strategy.
To create a campaign that addresses patients’ most critical needs and concerns, we listened closely to patients and caregivers to gain insight into apprehensions and barriers surrounding DBS, as well as the transformations it has enabled for patients.
ACHIEVEMENT
Earlier patient awareness of life-changing therapy
Medtronic’s direct-to-patient program launched in September 2025, empowering patients with information about DBS and the benefits of earlier consideration. Close collaboration between Deloitte Digital and Medtronic helped craft a campaign that educated and deeply resonated with Parkinson’s patients and their caregivers. By combining authentic, patient-centered storytelling with clear information, the program helped make a complex therapy feel more accessible and actionable for those navigating Parkinson's care.
Through thoughtful listening, deep industry insight and creative assets built to resonate, we helped Medtronic make information about DBS clearer, more accessible, and more relevant to people navigating Parkinson's care.
